The purpose of Turning Point is to provide our youth with a realistic view of the consequences of their choices and educate them in a way that will turn them from making decisions that may lead to illegal
behavior and point them in a more positive direction. This will include a comprehensive visit inside the Floyd County Jail.

The Turning Point Program is part of the Sheriff’s Office Youth Initiative and utilizes a structured, discipline based jail environment as well as discussions with inmates to navigate youth
toward better decision-making.

Youth will be introduced to the Floyd County Jail and its operation and will tour the facility, receive an inmate meal, and will participate in a live reality-based discussion with inmates.  Here they will see the consequences that are a result of others’ bad decisions, and will be prompted with consequences that could be facing them.  This discussion will be very descriptive of illegal behavior and its consequences encountered in the criminal justice system.

Correctional facilities across the United States are at capacity with individuals whose only problem is the habit of making bad decisions.  The acts of violence, alcohol and drug abuse, and other illegal behaviors are the result and not the cause.  Therefore, to break the cycle , we must place an emphasis on helping individuals make good, solid decisions.
